The University of Iowa

42nd Annual MIKI Meeting

April 16-18, 2004
Iowa City, IA

A Brief History of the MIKI Meeting

Each year, the Departments of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy of the Universities of Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas and Illinois at Chicago participate in the Medicinal Chemistry Meeting-in-Miniature, better known as the "MIKI" meeting. This meeting is organized by students at the host university and has traditionally been one of the most successful regional meetings in Medicinal Chemistry.

The first MIKI meeting was held in 1963 at the University of Iowa, and its founders are listed below. It was established to provide graduate students experience in presenting their research at a scientific meeting. It also provides a catalyst for the sharing and exchanging of ideas between students and faculty of the different universities.

Since 1966, a distinguished scientist has been invited to deliver a keynote address. This provides the graduate students an opportunity to interact both professionally and socially with one of the top scientists in the field.
